The second of a series of annual conferences
«Citizens of Our World or Prisoners of Our Borders?
To the Problem of Identity of Contemporary Man»
November 2-5, 2005, Norilsk
Within a long-term research project
LOCAL HISTORIES:
Academic, Arts and Educational Approaches to Local Studies
Contemporary man’s place of being and life style become more and more dynamic. Nowadays we speak about the phenomenon of a multiple identity (national, civic, ethnic, cultural, confessional, gender, corporate, professional, personal, etc.).
During the conference the following issues will be raised:
What is a multiple identity?
How are these identities related (co-exist, conflict, etc.) in the globalised era?
What is the search for identity today?
What are the ways and practices of its presentation and spaces for its realisation?
What are the foundations of contemporary identity?
The conference program is built up in such a way that combines in one discourse academic, arts and educational aspects of researching contemporary identity: analytical speeches and discussions will be accompanied by demonstration of creative practices.
Norilsk becomes not only a platform for discussing this topic, but also a bright illustration to it: the first conference in December 2004 revealed a special interest in the local community to their own identity.
